Pinterest Addiction

For the past couple of nights I have been navigating Pinterest. I will be fortunate if my iphone has not consumed all the data! On a side note, AT&T needs to bring back the unlimited data plan. Okay so back to Pinterest...I have a serious addiction and I need an intervention! I think I just got all the ideas to FINALLY start working on our house that is now 72 years old. I finally invested in a sander. Yes, that is going to be highly necessary for the many wood walls in our house. Remember my wallpaper ripping party post? Yeah, that one. Well, some ignorant fool decided to put this awful mesh backing behind the wallpaper. What is worse...the ignorant fool NAILED this mesh backing into the walls!!! REALLY???!!! For months I kept trying to figure out how to get rid of those awful little strings that were stuck behind all the nails. At the suggestion of a wise person, I started sanding around those nails and VOILA! They finally went away! My next big project in the dining room is to rip down all the awful ceiling tiles that are covering up some beautiful wood ceilings. Sanding that down will be quite the chore. Oh...I forgot to mention that this ignorant fool decided to install baseboards and door trim ON TOP of the wallpaper. Needless to say, I still have wallpaper sticking out from behind my baseboards. So far sanding has helped a bit but not much. I really do not feel like ripping away the baseboards...so much work to do. I got this awesome idea on Pinterest. At first I was going to do away with the hideous chandelier that is hanging over the dining room table. This thing is brass, with lots of little clear plastic pieces hanging all over it. Needless to say it is AWFUL. I am either going to do away with it altogether or try to find some ugly Williamsburg chandelier and repaint it to my liking. Red is my favorite color, you know. :) I have some awesome window treatments that I plan on hanging up as soon as I get done painting the dining room. Now if I can just figure out how to keep my cats from swatting at the beads. I am also hoping to refinish our dining room table. It is still in its original shape. I am thinking I will redo it in black. Of course that idea is from Pinterest as well. :) If I can still think by the time I get home I will post some pics of the BEFORE state of everything. This is definitely going to be a huge project.

The Aftermath of the Wallpaper Ripping Party

Sorry it has taken me so long to update my blog about the wallpaper ripping party. Needless to say things did not go as planned. However, I did manage to rip down all the wallpaper in the kitchen. Let me just say it was quite a task! Tearing wallpaper off of wooden plank walls can be a real pain. Not only that, I now have to take needle-nose pliers to remove staples and the threads that stick out from the nails. Just great. Okay I will stop grumbling now.

I only removed a section of the icky linoleum tile that someone thought looked cool on the walls. This person obviously needs a lesson in Kitchen Decor 101. Be sure to check out my pictures of the end result. :)

Getting that glue off the walls is going to be a task in the making!

Happy One Month Anniversary!

Happy one month anniversary to my awesome husband Rob! I thank God every day that He sent you to me almost three years ago. I know there are times when we will be on that wild roller coaster ride, but in the end it is all worth it. I love you!

Here is a pretty neat concept. We married on 12/11/10. Today is 1/11/11. Pretty cool, huh? :)

Wallpaper Ripping Party

When we first moved into our cottage back in the first part of December 2010 the floors in the living room and dining room were covered in carpet. ACK! Seriously I feel that carpet does NOT belong in a dining room! And to be quite frank I HATE CARPET! It holds way too many allergens and dander. You should have seen the dust flying as I was yanking it out the door!

So, what did any good future wife do before moving in the furniture? I ripped out the carpet. Yes folks, it went to its new home in the local landfill. And what was underneath it all? The most beautiful hardwood floors...and old carpet padding stuck to it. Gross. Now mind you it took some work to pull up all the tack strip, staples and scrape up the old stuff, but it was well worth it. My next project is to remove the carpet from the hallway. Then each downstairs bedroom will kiss the carpet goodbye (and good riddance) as well. Oh, and did I mention there is carpet in the downstairs bathroom? ACK again! That will be going pretty soon also.

Did I tell you that the previous owners also had the most heinous wallpaper covering all the walls? That is such a thing of the past! ACK number three! Okay, well, at least it is to me. I noticed in the closets that the walls are the horizontal wood planks. Awesome! That got me started thinking...what do the rest of the walls behind the wallpaper look like? I decided to pick a very inconspicuous spot and peeled some back to reveal that the entire downstairs walls are all the horizontal wood planks! HOORAY! What does this mean? The wallpaper has got to go. From the wise words of Bon Qui Qui (she cracks me and my hubby up), "Need to go, need to go!" Giggle. :)

Tomorrow morning one of my besties Sherry is coming over to help me with this daunting endeavor. I promise I will post some before and after pictures. I am so excited! Good-bye wallpaper! I sure will NOT miss you!
